Re: June 2022

High Brown Fritillary male and female from Heddon's Mouth. A DGF male dropped by to say hello, she ignored him and he didn't try anything!

As for Small Tortoiseshell, there were certainly plenty around Exmoor.

Re: July 2020

30+ Dark Green Fritillary on a walk in and around part of Friston Forest today. Of which 80% were female, including the darkest I've yet seen.

Also lots of Whites on the wing and a ton of fresh Red Admiral, and I saw a new Wall male.

Thanks Pauline. :)

Re: July 2020

Lots of good stuff to see in Chiddingfold Forest at the moment, but the Silver-washed Fritillaries are particularly nice.

Re: June 2020

Isn't it great when you go out and find exactly what you were looking for? In this case female Dark Green Fritillary, that I hoped would be out by now. And on Sunday I found two of these gorgeous butterflies. 1.jpg 2.jpg To die for! 3.jpg 4.jpg The number of males had increased considerably from my ...

Re: June 2020

Great work with those High Browns David! I wish I could have been there! :) The cooler weather over the last few days helped make the butterflies I was seeing more approachable. I was particularly happy to capture a Meadow Brown with wings open. Below are Small Tortoiseshell, Red Admiral, ...

Re: June 2020

Lovely to see my first fresh Small Tortoiseshell of the year this morning at Alfriston in East Sussex.

And then later on a half dozen or so Dark Green Fritillaries in Friston Forest.

Agreed about the weather David!

Re: May 2020

I was able to obtain these shots last Thursday evening all thanks to Trevors eyes and lungs. He spotted the pair at Park Heath Corner in East Sussex while Gary and myself were chasing our own Small Pearl-bordered Fritillaries at pretty much the opposite side of the reserve. He gave several mighty ca...

Your welcome Wurzel! Thanks m8, hope you do better with the Marbled Whites this year! :)

Cheers Trevor. They absolutely are! :)

Thanks Dave. I'm with you, love 'em! :)

Thanks David. I usually see much subtler wing rolling, but this one was quite 'vigorous'! :)

Re: Andrew555

Hi David, thank you very much. Very kind of you. :) In the latter part of June I paid special attention to the Dark Green Fritillary. They were wonderful to watch, in and around the Lullington Heath/Friston Forest area. 1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg 4.jpg They definitely favoured Thistle and Knapweed but would ...
