Re: Trevor
Thanks Ernie & Neil. Speckle Yellow moths are everywhere here too, they are excellent at distracting the eye when tracking a butterfly. It was a relief to learn that the first Pearl Bordered Fritillaries had been seen in Rowland Wood yesterday. I went along to see for myself early this morning. ...

Well done with the Pearls, Ernie. Never seen Lily of the Valley growing wild before.
And you have a very fine ginger mog, exactly my kind of cat.

Re: millerd
I think that is a subject we once discussed at Chiddingfold. Why are there some days when everything seems perfect, yet the butterflies fail to appear? We met on such a day at Chiddingfold, Emperors were known to be out along with WA and SWF, yet we saw very little. I'm sure humidity or the lack of ...

Thanks Dave, Wurzel & Katrina. We must take the rough with the smooth I suppose.
Cheers Mike. Pleased you enjoyed my recent efforts.
Appropriate for his stage in May, these two images popped up on my ' facebook ' memories.
Both taken on 5.5.2021 at Park Corner.

Re: Trevor
Cheers Wurzel. Much walking and hoping this morning produced very little. I spent 3 hours at Park Corner and Rowland Wood this morning in perfect weather. I could not believe how quiet both areas were. The final tally was 2 Red Admirals, 5 Peacocks and a fresh Green Veined White. A female Brimstone ...

Re: Trevor
No rain yesterday, Dave, and no Sun until the afternoon. Not idea for Walls. I killed two birds with one stone this morning, by calling in at Kithurst Hill on my way to Halnaker. This saved an 80 mile dedicated return Journey to Kithurst Hill. For once the weather was perfect for the whole visit, an...

Thanks Trevor, I am sure you saw the report of about five dukes when it was sunnier so you should go and fill your boots. They weren’t that hard to find when the sun came out but a fair bit of waiting fo

Re: Trevor
Cheers Wurzel, I can spot a Spring brood female Specklie at 10 paces, by the enhanced cream markings. The weather improved enough this afternoon for a trip to High and Over, although the strong breeze remained. Seven male Wall Browns were eventually found, but unusually they were spaced out over the...

If you are exploring Wiltshire, Mike, I have a recommendation. Tilshead, on the A360 from Salisbury. Leave the A360 at the far end of village ( by the garage ). Head straight on up the hill until you see a large concrete parking area on your right. It's military land with public access. Brilliant fo...

You've had it on a plate recently, Wurzel.
Small Tortoiseshells, Holly Blues that come within camera range, and Brimstones that stop!
A great Spring selection above.

What a fine sight, Mark. Something many people can enjoy without having to travel too far.
Fortunately I rescued some English bluebells from my fathers garden years ago. They have
since seeded around my garden, where they have become a permanent feature.

Sincere congrats for the Pearls. None at PCH as of Monday, very quiet generally in RW too.
Possibly my best ever shot was of a Green Hairstreak on English Bluebell, as you
say an ideal combination. They don't look too bad on Apple blossom either!
Hope things go mad soon!

Re: Trevor
Thanks Katrina, I couldn't resist such a dense mass of Bluebells. This morning I drove over to Horseshoe Plantation. As I neared Birling Gap the weather suggested that I might have a couple of Green Hairstreaks waiting for me. Not a bit of it! Nothing appeared for over an hour, about to give it up a...

A for finding the Dukes and the Grizzlie, and another for the superb shots.
A third as I haven't seen either species yet.
