A friend of mine saw 4 large plain grey "caterpillars" eating apple in her garden. When disturbed, they buried themselves in her flower border. She has no photos, but asked me what they were. I haven't got a clue.

I was very pleased to see a Painted Lady in the garden this morning, along with several very fresh Comma, a Red Admiral and two Hummingbird Hawkmoth, but these have just been eclipsed by (my first for the garden,) female Silver-washed Fritillary

Cream-spot Tiger are generally seen along the lower track after the 'hotspot' (past that big clump of bramble and beyond) toward the point.
I have seen them several times there on previous visits.
Wall tend to stick to the rocky outcrop at the top. Patience usually pays off.

I live locally, and heard that they were indeed flying on Friday. Very early this year.
They will be very worn by the end of May this year I fear.
I shall be going this week, so I won't be going on the 28th. (It will take me that long to get up and back on those slopes )

Agreed about birds, fingers, and dog turds. :roll: For one season we could do the family limited category's, Whites, Browns, Skippers, Fritillaries, Lycaenidae ( Blues, Coppers, Duke and Hairstreaks ) and Nymphalidae excluding Browns and Fritillaries, :? or is there a better way to sort 6 category'...

if it's any consolation you can produce wildflower gardens without peat and without having to water them too so don't despair In fact, I have found from my own experience, many wild flowers and grasses prefer poor dry soil, so using peat is counter productive, keeping the soil wet and that in turn ...

That's interesting Gary. I too am thinking of upgrading my 400D (yes, I'm still using my first camera)

I may well go for a mid-range model if the that is the price difference.
