Re: Pauline

Well, it is that time of the year again and it is with much regret that I must say my goodbyes until next season :( . I'd like to thank everyone who has taken an interest in my diary, whether this has been just to enjoy the images or perhaps taking the time to comment or give advice. It has been a d...

Re: Pauline

Is that a gentle hint David?  A few more images from home. There have been some lovely Commas visiting and the first of the Small White eggs hatched yesterday. Having seen Pete's jaw-dropping images I am almost embarrassed to post these but they are the best I could achieve: P2110589ad.j...

I am pleased you managed to see the Queens Dave and now have some lovely images to treasure :D . I hope we get to see a few more migrants before the season is finally over.

Re: Pauline

Thank you all so much for your very kind and generous comments, and your support regarding April has been much appreciated. As David intimated, once signs of illness are detected in birds it is generally too late to take any meaningful action. The fact that April is still here one week later is enco...

Re: Pauline

Thank you Goldie. I have emailed you with fuller explanation. You are absolutely right of course David. Being a prey animal they are masters when it comes to hiding any early signs of illness - even from observant owners. She is still with us albeit very weak - some sort of blockage came away on Tue...

Smashing images there Katrina. Great shots of the underside which I personally think are more attractive. Wish I could have joined you.

Re: Bugboys mission

It's lovely to see your shots of QoS Paul. It brought back the memories of when they turned up at Chichester some years ago (a mating pair!). I can still remember the excitement and will be eternally grateful to Richard Roebuck who supplied me with a spare battery when mine expired. Really pleased y...

Re: Pauline

Thank you for the compliments Dave - very much appreciated. I need some cheering up right now. Cheers Wurzel for the comment and ID. With Ashley on board I am confident that the right actions will be carried out at Oxenbourne - the big question is, will it be in time??????? Thank you Mike - for one ...

I've just seen your images on the egg hatching Pete. The detail is stunning. I really don't think you can improve on that!

Re: essex buzzard

Great landscape shots as usual Mark but I do like that Lulworth with the path in the background - reminiscent of the ones Guy and William sometimes take and which I've tried (unsuccessfully) in the past to achieve

Re: Bugboys mission

A friend had just called to tell me she'd seen and photographed a Hornet dismembering and eating a large fresh Red Admiral - in a garden centre - when I saw your shots Buggy. I've had them in the garden before (a nest  ) and it's amazing how quick they can demolish apples off the tree too. You...

Re: Pauline

Thank you David but much credit to Ashley for finding such a lovely specimen. I should have mentioned that I took the opportunity to check up on many of the BH eggs I watched being laid previously. Many of them have already been predated including the 4 laid together by the same female :( Today I on...

Hi Neil

Apologies for the late comment but just wanted to say that I love those shots of the Canary-shouldered Thorn. I had one in the trap last year but I really need another shot at getting images as good as yours  Burying beetles just don't do it for me! :(

Re: Pauline

Cheers Buggy. Now I know you didn't say this explicitly but I've been moaning about this situation for 3 years now so I thought it was time I got up off my backside and found out what was happening. Well, I didn't get off my backside as such but I did make a few phone calls to try to establish owner...

Some nice shots there of BH David - at this point in the season I'd class that as a good result. I'll still be looking and I'll be happy with worn and ragged if I find any.

Re: Pauline

Cheers Trevor - when I'm out with butterfly folk I'm always in good company :D Thank you David - it would certainly be good to see a few more migrants. Looking at some diaries Goldie it might seem like they're really easy to find but ........ there are never any guarantees and repeat visits are some...

Re: Pauline

Today, in between showers, I decided to check on all those Small Copper eggs I saw being laid on 6 August. I must have watched at least a dozen eggs being laid in total but sadly could only find 2 larva: P2100882ad.jpg I am not sure whether that is a discarded skin or a half eaten larva beside the S...
