Great picture of a great observation! Like someone else I wonder whether the eggs hatch in sequence, presumably the top of the tower first, otherwise those above would collapse? But the top of the tower is laid last? It would be an interesting project to watch and photograph the hatching.

Hi Steve,

That's the caterpillar of an Elephant Hawk Moth. Some are green, but they are usually black and brown.

In 2014 I saw a Purple Emperor chasing a dragonfly of similar size.
Was this picture really taken in August and not July?
