Contributing

Contributions to this website are always very welcome! This page contains guidelines for contributors, and a list of contributors to date. Contributions take many forms and include:

  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Trip reports
  • Other articles
  • Site ratings (see the various Sites pages)

Of particular interest are "gaps" where a photo is needed for a particular stage of a butterfly. Click here to see such gaps. In addition, the website provides examples of the upperside and underside of both male and female of each species. Click here to see the gaps.

Making a Contribution

Contact the webmaster to make a contribution. Specific details are provided in the relevant section below.

Contributing Photos

The vast majority of contributions to this website are photos, which are often used on the main species pages. However, this website also offers a facility for visitors to set up their own gallery of photos (see below). Here are some guidelines for those wishing to contribute photos:

  • At this time, only photos in electronic form can be accepted.
  • Send the highest resolution images you have. They will be scaled appropriately (and thumbnails created) for the website.
  • If possible, please set the filename appropriately, since this will allow your contribution to be processed more quickly. The format should be:

    Species name - Stage - Location name - Date.jpg

where Stage is one of "ovum, larva, pupa, imago, form, or aberration", and Date is in the form DD-MMM-YY. For example:

    Adonis Blue - imago - Martin Down - 23-May-06.jpg

  • Photos may be digitally altered (cropped, sharpened etc.) to improve the look on the website. If you do not want your photos adjusted then please say so.

Contributing a Photo Gallery

Visitors may set up their own gallery. Previously, this was limited to 20 photos, but this restriction has now been removed. To set up a gallery, please send in your photos as described above.

Contributing Videos

Here are some guidelines for those wishing to contribute videos:
  • The preferred format is either .AVI or .WMV
  • Please send a high-quality video. It will be converted for appropriate streaming over the Internet.

Contributing Trip Reports and Other Articles

Here are some guidelines for those wishing to contribute trip reports and other articles:
  • The preferred text format is to use Microsoft Word. If this is not possible, please use unformatted text.
  • If the trip report or article includes photos, then please send these too using the guidelines above.

Policy

  • No contributions will be sent on to a third party.
  • There is no guarantee that your contribution will be included. A reason will be given if this is the case.
  • The copyright of each contribution will remain with the contributor, and the copyright shown on this website.
  • A contributor can withdraw their contributions at any time, and their contribution will be removed from this website.
  • All contributors will be acknowledged on this page, unless explicitly requested otherwise.

Contributors to Date

The following people have contributed to this website to date. Please note that contributions may no longer appear on the website since the website can only ever show a small number of photos (20 photos per stage), and the best photos are always selected (meaning that the website continuously improves over time!).
